I had heard and read about the trilogy several times and finally gave it a shot (the $2.99 Kindle price for the first book was a significant influence).
It's like listening to a person describe a very detailed but also very boring dream, with the logic of dreams that, if you are not the dreamer, appear only as gaps or blanks to the listener.
