Children love getting close to the rock wall and looking around this pretty place.From Troll Falls, most people simply walk back the way they came, which is a bit of a shame, as you can also visit Hay Meadow, which is very pretty.To get to Hay Meadow, follow the route back down Marmot Creek for 5 minutes or so.
Troll Falls is a classic, family-friendly hike near Nakiska, that’s popular year-round. But there's still a waterfall at the end. Provided it’s later in the season and the river isn’t running high, you can go down to the river and toss rocks in it, lots of fun for the kids.
We have enjoyed going in the winter when the falls are frozen and much more interesting. Cross the creek for the Upper Falls though, and you'll leave the crowds behind as you explore a magical world of frozen waterfalls (one that you can even walk behind.)

Listen carefully and you can usually still rushing water in behind the ice.For the return route you can keep to the left at the junction and head straight back to the parking lot or take the Hay Meadows Loop along the Kananaskis River.
While at one point there were dozens of Troll Dolls, we only found 2 in our most recent hike.Troll Falls are a pleasant waterfall, and you can walk on a short trail to the left of Troll Falls, to get closer to the cliffs. Coming from either direction take the exit onto Highway 40 near the Stoney Nakoda Resort.Continue on Hwy 40 for approximately 25 km’s. They are located in Kananaskis Country near the base of the Nakiska downhill ski hil which was built for the 1988 Olympic Winter Games. Most of trail is open so sun melts snow down quickly.
The Upper Falls above Troll Falls Destination 1: … You may need microspikes or snowshoes, but this is a good hike.
Otherwise, I'm thinking it could be a very beautiful hike this winter to the upper falls (with spikes or cleats.)
Surrounding bedrock at the base of Troll Falls is wet from constant mist created by water falling over rock in swirling air currents.
Head past the village towards Nakiska and watch for the Stoney Trails sign.
Falls are always easy to reach. Significant fall hazards exist beyond the maintained trail and travel beyond the sanctioned trail is not advised due to the potential for serious injury.
