As a person from the North, I love this.
The 1st episode in the 2nd series where Jerry is singing in asda about black bin bags to the tune of 'men in black' has me in tears of laughter no matter how many times i see it!!
Two episodes I particularly love are the Crimewatch UK-style programme that features the Phoenix Club and also the way the characters rally round for the Stars In Their Eyes night.
It was AWFUL! Cat Deely hosts the epic 'live' final of Britain's Got the Pop Factor, where musical acts R Wayne, 2 Up 2 Down and Geraldine battle it out for their own record deal and an automatic entry ...

However, I can forgive anything after seeing Phoenix Nights.
If you're NOT in the UK or Europe, here's what you gotta do: - bite the bullet and buy the DVD's from AMAZON.CO.UK and watch it on your computer (The DVD's are Region 2; non-US), or - spend a few bucks and get an all-region DVD player and then watch it via your stereo-connected wide-screen TV, or - sit around and hope and pray that UK's Channel 4 exports the show to a US network. And as a plug to Canadian audiences: This could easily be a British companion piece to our "Trailer Park Boys" (except way better!)
At times you may not notice, but Peter Kaye plays several of the characters. UK funny man Peter Kay wows an audience in this hilarious 2 hours of good British comedy The characters are all top notch, with dave spikey putting in a brilliant performance as Jerry 'the saint' Sinclair. 7 out of 9 found this helpful. This comedy, which ran for two series, was co-written by and starred (in several roles), Bolton comic Peter Kay, who has his finger perfectly on the breathing pulse of North West England (speaking as someone the same age as Kay who comes from a part of the NW not a million miles from Bolton). In "Phoenix Nights" the comic genius that is Peter Kay has created a Modern Classic.This is probably the best British comedy of recent years,whilst "The Office" is excellent i think "Phoenix Knights" just edges it.If i could rate each episode,every one except maybe the first episode and last episode of Series 1 & 2 respectivly would get 10/10,it really is that funny. When I was a lad my father used to take me & my brothers to a Working Mens Club on Saturday nights. The auditions at the end of each episode make me cry with laughter...the jugula...need i say more?
This is too funny to miss! Phoenix Nights is a terrific television series from Peter Kay. And if watching Phoenix Nights for laughs isn't enough reason for you to purchase these DVDs, then purchase them to use as a textbook example of how a creative ensemble can work together to produce a first-rate comedy series and put together an informative and entertaining commentary track.
