I had seen a passing reference to the Legion in another book - something along the lines of "a legionnaire will drop dead before he stops marching." I was rather impressed with him, so when I came across this book (after having read the Douglas Porch history of the Legion in the early 1990s), I was eager to read it.
Then there are the ones in-between.I dont know if its being set in the modern era (relatively) or the Vietnam War but I really liked this so much more than most of the other Casca books recently.
I see that Henry Kissinger was also a reader of this memoir.An amazing account of a different time. But nonetheless, an interesting book. by Presidio Press Mr. Murray is not only an excellent observer and storyteller, he is very tough and very talented, as shown both by his accomplishments during his five years in the Legion and by his success in the business world in the decades afterward. Not bad right, immortality and all.
Many of the characters and situations are familiar to anyone that has served but the rA youthful, romantic, impulsive gesture leads Simon Murray to run away to the French Foreign Legion and sets in motion this timeless classic story of becoming a soldier and a man. As in all the Casca books, they are great stories, if you can get past the writing. But humanity united under… I always enjoy them and believe I learn quite a lot about the historical period they're set in but some are definitely more interesting than others and this book is one of them.

It was one of my favourite books at the time and was one of the reasons I pursued a career in the military. Simple words that paint a complex, elegant and fascinating picture of an incredible time in an incredible life.

It was released on June 12, 2017 and published by Galaxy's Edge Press. I've always had an interest in military history and the Legion has been something of a mystery to me. Forever wandering the earth fighting one war after another.

Simon Murray was nineteen when he joined the French Foreign Legion. I have purposefully not given any details of these stories as it would be a shame to lessen the impact that it will have and if you are considering or pursuing a career in the military this is required reading.One of the best books about the Foreing Legion out there . This is a great insight into the history and day to day reality of life in the legion. Welcome back.
