Located just off the highway, the pines of Black Hills Forest isolate this mid-sized group of sites from the road noise. The campground is small and nestled in the woods at the base/end of Needles Highway and walking distance to Sylvan Lake (trail in the woods along the road) The campground is set into a hillside giving some nice separation between sites and areas of the campground. "We stayed for 4 nights in Keystone, I did a lot of research and this is the hotel that I picked.
The campground host was great... easy going and helpful if needed. The lodge is near by and they have a nice bar and dining room.
Incredibly clean and well maintained facilities along with friendly staff make this place a great choice. Be aware... a few folks we saw pull in during our stay had some mix ups with the South Dakota State Parks Reservations System... while ours when very smooth I would be sure to double check confirmations and...Awesome location! Rich in history and natural beauty, the lodge is situated in a spot suggested by architect Frank Lloyd Wright—within a hillside forest of pine and spruce trees, in harmony with the beauty of the rugged landscape. Vehicles and golf carts coming and going until late hours made sleeping difficult.

Enjoy the sounds of the breeze through the pines, birds singing and calm surroundings in a safe, small town atmosphere. Travel Dates. I could easily spend a few hours here checking out the beautiful lake and the surrounding enivroment.Clean, quiet, breath taking. In summary, this is a place to party, not a place to relax or enjoy natural beauty of the area or nearby trails.We camp here when we go on climbing trips since it's close to Sylvan Lake. About Custer State Park Sylvan Lake Campground. There is a small, high priced store near by and a laundromat near by. Sylvan Lake had more spacious sites. We were there in July and made the reservation in January (I think) and the cabins were about half booked at that time.
